Call center -operative claimed to be from Virgin Media Technical Services; said he needed me o take my (landline phone) into the room with the computer, then turn it on, so he could do something to my router, to "give me the speed [I] was paying for". I've had at least four calls from these guys (with heavy Asian accents, to the point of not being able to be understood); it is the same script, but the calls have come from a number of different phone numbers in the West Midlands. SPAM I picked up and the phone immediately disconnected. Had 2 calls from similar London numbers yesterday that said they were my internet provider and there had been some suspicious activity on my account, press 1, etc.etc.

Phoned today at12.15 pm. Fairly gruff voice. Purportedly from BT. Asked me to confirm that I had been in touch with BT this morning. As I had, I said yes. There was some hesitation and a lot of background noise. I asked what he wanted. He asked if contact was by phone or mail (I think). I replied that the contact was on the internet and he abruptly ended the call.

Got an automated call from this number stating that its from HMRC and that there is a Tax Fraud registered against my name and I needed to press 1 otherwise I would be arrested shortly. I hung up straight away as I am certain that's not how HMRC operates.
