My brother got a call from this number asking for a gas meter reading. He was not sure where the caller was from but a 1471 and internet search brought up this number as belonging to British Gas. However I am not with British Gas but with Southern Electric, for at least the last 6 years. I called Southern Electric who said they did not call for any reading and would not do so. Just had a call for this number - an automated message saying it was from HMRC and my name was linked to fraud. I had to press 1 to be connected to an advisor. Failure to do so would mean I would be arrested.....I'll take that risk.
