They probably instigate all the silent nuisance calls you receive so they can tell you that you are being annoyed by nuisance calls. So of course if you pay them they may stop making the nuisance calls. Otherwise known as a protection racket which is certainly illegal.

SCAM Apparently the bank wanted to talk to my nan about her bank cards, she hung up on these scammers.
Call center Received call June 2022. Stated they were calling about a social housing repair scheme and were there any issues with damp, outstanding repairs. I told them I was not in social housing and they asked if I owned my home. I said yes (to get them off the phone) and they hung up. When you call the number back you get an automated message for a company In Debt Services Management (nothing to do with social housing repairs). Beware of this company (sounds like an overseas call centre)

Calling on behalf of energy company from before we moved house, they completely messed up our bills and payments, agreed to wipe arrears when we moved and now being harassed by lcs via phone and texts weekly. Keep getting called from this number, when answered they state that they are from BT and there is an issue with the broadband service (even try to cover fact that other providers use BT network) and that they need access to a laptop/desktop to fix problem, when challenged they hang up.
