This is the UK version of a scam running amok in the US. The supposed company, microsoftechs.com, contacts people and claims there is an issue with their computer. The claim to be partnered with Microsoft and gain confidence with all the classic scam talk. If you do get scammed, they will access your computer via remote access, go through your email, install software and who knows what else. Called me today to mumble something about life insurance. I said I have it and the caller then mumbled for about a minute and I said - politely - I don’t understand a thing you just said. She said “oh realy then how are you able to respond?” Which is both nonsensical and confrontational. Then she put the phone down. She beat me to it.

When I told them I wasn't on Virgin, they waffle on about how they do the security for all broadband suppliers, because Virgin supplies the lines for them all. I called the number which then gave an automated message and a contact number to call, 01582267124. I was put through to a customer service rep and asked politely to be removed from their database. He added my number and fingers crossed I won't be bothered again, although I've blocked their number anyway.
