Scam call from BT !! They re going to cut off my landline and internet connection !?!

I was called by an indian man with poor command of the english language claiming they were from a lifestyle company or such like and also had my full name and address, and they said they had obtained this information from a free database, once I said I wasnt prepared to answer any questions they hung up. Blocked.

Told me they were calling as id applied for a loan which had been declined. I haven t applied for any loasns and she kept insisting I had but said she couldn t tell me where id applied due to confidentiality. In the process of buying a house and the only loan id applied for was a mortgage which is already in place so very disconcerting. When I tried to question her she tried to end the call. Clearly a scam.

The call has been placed from one of Repsol Sinopec s offshore installations. It is very unlikely to be for marketing purposes. More likely it is an offshore worker trying to call home.

Called today said he was Steve from TalkTalk and my internet connection was about to be shut off for 15 days. He would send a new router and cable to avoid this. He was about to ask me to follow instructions to re-set router, etc when I asked for proof he was from TalkTalk. He hung up! Funny though, we are actually in talks with TalkTalk about a new router and seem to get scam calls right after we speak to them!

When you answer your phone and if it s a number you don t recognise, DON T SPEAK JUST LISTEN! Wait for the caller to speak first and then decide whether to simply put the phone down. If it s a recorded message, it ll nearly always be a scam or a computer dialling a batch of numbers in sequence and trying to assertain if the number they have just dialled is a voice line. i.e. a private phone number. Having called previously, from a similar number, 07500444549, to try to gain access to my computer, they tried this one, Scammers!!!

Called (twice) to tell me that a survey showed few people in my area with alarm. Explained I have one and not interested. 2nd time asked to be removed from list as on TPS. Have now blocked on BT as well
