Pre-recorded message re banking PPI, dial 5 to contact, 9 to avoid more calls from this number, but the 9 does not work as received more calls two and three days later. Absolute pain. Registered with TPS already so how do they obtain my details?

Accident scam.

Answered this random call to my mobile, automated message saying that a charge had been made against my name from the inland revenue. Ridiculous, I called back to challenge them. A foreign man answered saying HMRC can I help you? I asked why they called me, he asked if he could have my name. I said no. He said You had better get ready to be arrested, Ms ....... (using my name, which I hadn t given), then hung up. Vile scum.

When you answer your phone and if it s a number you don t recognise, DON T SPEAK JUST LISTEN! Wait for the caller to speak first and then decide whether to simply put the phone down. If it s a recorded message, it ll nearly always be a scam or a computer dialling a batch of numbers in sequence and trying to assertain if the number they have just dialled is a voice line. i.e. a private phone number.
