A large number of people have been called by the criminals using this fictitious number according to other sites. Their aim is to gain the confidence of people and persuade them to allow access to their computers so they can infect them. Yesterday I was out all day and when I returned I found no less than five calls from a slightly different but equally fictitious number, 01614379874, but still equally recognisable as fake from anyone who has had so many of these calls as I have. I rang the main number 0844 567 9000 yesterday, they are a limo hire service, he gave me 02920 100022 to ring back on to reserve a limo... now im wondering what to do ?
It's a scam offering a discount card for all major supermarkets and once you give your age group they told me I was also eligible for free return flight tickets and a week in a European villa. Catch - needed my 16 digit credit/Debit card number to place a penny charge to authenticate who I was. Needless to say I did not provide.
14 calls from this number in 3 days, getting annoyed now, number is blocked. Number claims its the cooperative bank fraud department.
SCAM- Voicemail Informing me that my bank and national insurance number had been suspended, wanted me to key in account no, sort code and numbers from National Insurance Number, be vigilant.

SCAM - Person claimed they were from UK Insurance Department / Black Horse Finance. Had my name & first line of my address (somewhat disturbingly) and wanted me to verify further information for a PPI refund, even though I had never claimed for a PPI refund. They wouldn't give me a number to call and when I said this couldn't be correct, the date for claiming for PPI has long gone and companies aren't ringing people out of the blue years when they haven't claimed, he hung up.
