They usually work for some third company and call with offer of some goods or services for the actual company they were hired for. In this case the number is mostly reported in connection with pension reviews ("Pension Advice Bureau"), accident claims, payment protection (PPI). SCAM Says it's national crime agency, but it's a recorded message. They'll try to scam you into giving your national insurance number, and other personal details. Don't press 1 to talk to anyone, don't even answer. Or of you want to f##k with them, go through and wind them up!

SCAM Fake 'Hermes delivery driver' is scamming people with convincing texts 'Hermes: We attempted to deliver your parcel today and was unsuccessful, to reschedule delivery please follow the link'. On clicking the link the receiver is met with a convincing website that looks almost identical to the Hermes official site where it asks for bank details to make payment for the £1.45 redelivery charge.
