"Roger" called to ask whether I was getting a high number of nuisance calls. "No". "I am from the telephone preference Company (?) and we will stop you getting any more unwanted calls". Managed to keep him on the phone for 4 minutes by being interested, puzzled and polite. I assured him that I was already with BT service to prevent unwanted calls. Not entirely true, but true enough. He insisted that this was nothing to the point.
