They were trying to get my wife to give them permission to access the computer!! Scam
Told me my appliance cover was expiring shortly. When I said I wanted to make a claim he changed his mind and said it had expired. SCAM obviously, but who issues these phone numbers knowing they are used to defraud - somewhere a legit company has to be issuing these. They are no better.

Call from Indian sounding man stating he was from UK Preference, asking if I was .... and if I lived at a certain address. Address was my address years ago. When questioned where he had got my phone No and address from, he screamed and put the phone down.
