They probably instigate all the silent nuisance calls you receive so they can tell you that you are being annoyed by nuisance calls. So of course if you pay them they may stop making the nuisance calls. Otherwise known as a protection racket which is certainly illegal.
according to Google comments it sounds like a debt collecting scam.
I couldn't find any info for this specific number, but there are two facts : people do search for this number which can be seen from different similar pages, and there are more similar numbers reported (just last 2 or 3 digits alternated) - so I assume this should be the same call centre. Probably calling with different offers for different comapnies, but for sure some general call centre. Did someone answer any number of this range or this specific number?

1st call from them, normally i don t pick up the house phone but i did on this occasion and didn t say anything for a few seconds as i know it could of been a cold caller and as soon as i said hello they hung up

As usual, when I was hard at work on something important that needed concentration, I got this call again. The usual recorded voice addressed me as "Dear customer". Before turning to Tellows I looked it up on another site and found there had been 169 complaints about it there alone in a few days. Surely the authorities can do something about this, or are the perpetrators so clever they cannot be traced? I hope they are, and that they will get their deserts for their criminal behaviour.
