Caller said my electrical insurance, covering white goods, was due for renewal . I don t have any such insurance. She wanted me to give the expiry date of my debit card to "confirm" my details. I gave a false date which she was able to confirm. Remarkable! She then wanted my 16-digit card number. I asked her to give me the number so I could confirm with her. She said she couldn t as the digits were starred out on her screen for security reasons. I asked how could she confirm if she can t see the digits. She

asked me to confirm my address which I did (but made sure to recite it at a speed/tone where if they have my address they can confirm but if they didn t they wouldn t understand me) was then asked for my date of birth and national insurance number! asked what it was about and was told I needed to confirm identity first, said no and hung up the phone.
