Text Messages suspicions link sent in text to my phone which is brand new 2 days I’ve had my phone and not given my number to anybody yet so how did they manage to get it?

I just got a call claiming (falsely) to be from this number, claiming (again falsely) that it was BT Openreach (or something). SCAM called to discuss damp problems reported in my property, I don’t have damp issues and have never reported any problems. I own my own property so knew immediately that this was a scam, talked to them long enough to get the gist of what they were trying to do before hanging up.

We received a call from 0141 555 4854 with a recorded message telling us of unauthorised transactions on our card? One was £300 for Amazon and then £1, something (I lost the will at this time). It's a scam pretending to be from HMRC asking for details.
It was a recorded message with a very polite womans voice stating she was from bank security advising that there was two suspicious transactions from my account one was £300 pound from Amazon and the other was a card transaction from abriad of £1300.
