Seems to be used for some telemarketing call center - this range of numbers 1612497xxx (common feature, they use more numbers of the same range) is mostly reported with financial services, PPI, insurance claims, loans. Just block it if not interested (I use the app from these pages, no problems). Folks did they call you with the same or something new? I really don't answer unknown numbers and don't want to call them back...

I was called from this number, claiming there is something wrong with my internet connection and saying that if I didn't answer his questions he would cut me off from BT who he said is providing my access. Very insistent, wouldn't give me details how he came to have my number but didn't know my name! Yes, ridiculous but maybe someone else would believe him. It sounded like a call centre in the background, definitely fraudulent.
