Asked for a reference number and they gave me this number 020 81233558 to call back. Instead I called TalkTalk's number on their website who confirmed no-one fro TalkTalk had called me and this was a phishing scam.

They left answerphone messages - Claimed to be HMRC and are preparing a lawsuit against you. Call this number immediately. Yeah right, total scam. Worry that some people may be worried enough by the threatening nature to fall for it. They also called a couple of times from 0113 3281205 with the same voice and message funnily enough! HMRC would never leave a message like that so these calls are always scams.
