They usually work for some third company and call with offer of some goods or services for the actual company they were hired for. In this case the number is mostly reported in connection with insurance marketing - ambulance chasers.
TAX SCAM - told me I was committing a tax fraud and that I needed to press 1 or I will be arrested straight away. That was now 20 mins ago and so far I have not been arrested!

I have talk today with that number and they told me that they are from some economist news and they want to ask me some question , how old are , you , do you have some credit , where are you live in own house or ... rent and that was . i have ask " i have to pay something or why you call me , from where you have my number ? " And the guy say me , don't worry mister is for free, we just need of information how is the live in Norway ....

Strange as the phone rang for a while but I could not get to it so I did a 1471 and got the number and rang them back, after a while it was picked up and it sounded like an office but no one spoke I said hello a couple of times to silence then a man said hello who is this? I replied I had a missed call from you but I don't know your number he said you have had no calls off me. I have triple checked and it was this number.
