Got a call from 01997 617418 and he said he was called “Daniel”, obviously incorrect based on accent. He said he was from Curry’s PC World! Stating he was doing mobile phone upgrades. Upon notification of the fact I had already upgraded recently he hung up.

This number is being used to carry out impersonation scams through WhatsApp. Serious pressure being exerted claiming to be a family member in financial trouble. Fraud carried out via a Metro Bank Account sort code 23 05 80 using various account numbers and Metro Bank don't seem to be concerned. Has been reported to own bank and Action Fraud. This number is causing untold distress and needs to be taken out of service.

She insisted this was not a scam and asked what was funny. I said I was surprised this scam was still going and asked if she couldn't get a proper job. Again she insisted it was not a scam. I laughed again. She then said ok, she would block my computer. I asked what she was going to do. She said 'shut up!' and hung up.

I cut him off and asked what the post code was - he couldn't/wouldn't tell me so I told him he was a liar and scammer and hung up. Because of the silence between me answering and his speaking and the clicks as his call was connected, the call was made from an autodialer, and was not made from a mobile phone as the number would indicate.

An automated female voice, purporting to be from Amazon, said I had ordered an iPhone and should press 2 if I wanted to talk to someone.

Very demanding woman, said she was from BT and wanted to fix my router problem. There’s nothing wrong with my router. I disconnected when she started asking me to press certain buttons on my phone.

SCAM Text message purported to be from my son saying his phone was broken and to delete his contact number and substitute this one. Checked with his wife who confirmed that my son’s phone was working perfectly. A definite scam.
