Received a payment request email from Paypal for £650 with message stating "Fraudulent activity found, amount £649.99 GBP has been debited from your account for a purchase of DECATHLON GIFT CARDS, if it's not you reach us immediately @ +44-800-368-9784". As this email was directly from PayPal, i checked my account and the request for payment was actually true, however the message on the request is false and the number is fake. This number is NOT Paypal and is a scam.

cold calling - they pretend to be linked to lots if Life Assurance companies and acting on their behalf. They are not. Was bored and made up some data, they they pass you to someone who tries to sell you a policy. They quote the FCA many times - but when pushed confirm they are not regulated by them. SCAM SPAM Fraud phone call as others have claimed that they pretend to be from O2 (probably trying to take advantage of the Virgin media/O2 partial merger) or hang up instantly. They don't leave voicemails or attempt more than once as it's an automated machine going through a number list.
Caller hung up when I answered. Probably a scam as the callers number was close to mine.
