I asked how they have my number and she said from a shared database of all UK providers, although this would seemingly breach GDPR for sharing customer's contact details and wouldn't make sense for the businesses to risk losing customers this way. I believe this number has been used for a scam; notably to an elderly person regarding their bank details.

SCAM They say they are HMRC but they are not. HMRC do not call you from a MOBILE number. When challenged with this they hang up.

Probably scam, sounded like call centre in background, there was a delay before he said something (which I couldn't understand), then he hung up.
Unsure wat type of call this was - I answered and there was no response, went dead 3 seconds later. Tried calling back, number is dead. Data gathering scam is my suspicion as I was duped into subscribing to something last week and I've had a million spam emails since.
