When I told them I wasn't on Virgin, they waffle on about how they do the security for all broadband suppliers, because Virgin supplies the lines for them all. Claim to be British Gas, saying there s been a change in the way I top up and they want to check that the supply is ok etc. I called BG from a number on the BG website, they checked and told me that these numbers are NOT BRITISH GAS. Recommended I add them to my block list, I suggest you do the same.
