I am fed up receiving up to 4 recorded messages every day from this number. In frustration I eventually dialled 2 and told a rather bored sounding person that I was fed up getting so many calls from them and asked if he could remove my name from their so called Government Database. He mumbled something and hung up! what can I do to stop this number calling me?

Seems to be used for some telemarketing call center - this range of numbers 12179005xx (common feature, they use more numbers of the same range) is mostly reported with financial services, trading on-line (also reported from different countries - international call centre). Just block it if not interested (I use the app from these pages, no problems). Folks did they call you with the same or something new? I really don't answer unknown numbers and don't want to call them back...

SCAM I recieved a telephone call from what sounded like a call center, but the number was local (01942 491331) the man who spoke was asian sounding claiming to be from the' tax office', said I owed 6 months taxes. I challenged him and asked what ref number he had, he couldn't tell me so I asked for a name and number to call back but he just insisted I pay now or I would be arrested!, so I asked how much? he still couldn't tell me or even my name, just repeated my phone number.
