Received text quoting my name incorrectly asking me to ring about an appointment made for me. No knowledge of it so left well alone, anticipate it to be a scam.

You then get further harassment calls from them trying to "give your computer back" so they can gain further access/exploit more cash from you. Key targets are older or vulnerable people. Be safe.

This was a scammer who pretended to be from BT talking about illegal access to your broadband.!! That's rich!! Hacked my bank account and Amazon a/c. It took ages-up to 5 days to clear this mess up and it leaves a sour taste in your mouth. If someone had asked me last night if the death penalty was appropriate for scammers, I would have agreed. Don't know who called me from this number. I jumped out of bed when the phone rang but I didn't pick up as I didn't recognise the number. It was 7:36 am ffs! Even the sun was still in bed where I live in Greater Manchester and I do't even know where Thanet is, never mind why someone from there would be phoning me at an ungodly hour. Man with Pakistani accent (no name given) said my computer is giving me trouble. It is, as it's refusing to boot up. He also said it is a laptop, correct again. Completely unnerved, I said that Action Fraud would be delighted to hear about it and then I rang off without giving any of my details. This has got me really, really worried. I do my utmost to keep everything secure, with passwords, 3 step authentication, etc. How has he got in?

If you do not believe me, ask them during a video call to show the weather outside and watch em try to avoid it Wasn't stupid enough to fall for it so unsure of the end game but likely some form of sextortion scam as they were hoping to move the conversation to Telegram and such scams are common there Stay safe :)
