CHECKING MY BANK STATEMENT I FOUND A DEBIT OF ?99.99 FROM A FREE TIME CD. I RANG THE BANK WHO WERE VERY HELPFUL AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS FROM A PURCHASE I HAD MADE ABOUT A MONTH EARLIER. Claimed to be from BT OpenReach. Explained they were contacting people re internent connection. (1) Was asked if internet speed was okay. Replied upload/download speed fine. Was asked for precise speeds. Said I wasn't in front of a computer but upload/download speed fine. Had to say this three times. (2) Was told my area experiencing slow speeds. Phoned telling me they had a cheque to send for refund of bank charges. Had my name and address, wanted my date of birth. When asked which bank were refunding charges just repeated UK Financial Services. Told me they would cancel cheque if I didn t give date of birth. I said that would be fine and hung up. Its time uk phone numbers were stopped from being given to overseas callers.
