Have previously had about three missed calls from this number - just picked up the latest call and they informed me that I d had a car accident at some point since July 2010 - I have never had a car accident, thank goodness. I asked them where they got this information from - they said they purchased these details from a company and had got them as I had registered the accident but hadn t claimed anything. Lots of scam calls coming from "0161" number at the moment so the the call was almost certainly a scam. These calls which use spoofed numbers originate outside the UK ...

The companies don’t "get" your number, they just block-dial numbers until they get a ring tone so TPS and ex-directory numbers do not offer any protection.
