They phoned me saying they were from BT and trying to stop marketing calls (Like a kind of international Telephone Preference Service) and tried to get get my card details out of me. They read out my name and address to me then asked for the expiration date on my debit card so they could "verify" my details. I gave them a false one. They then asked for the "Reference" number of the card the big number along the top. I asked them to verify my BT account number (I m on Virgin Media) but they did nit see

4 days agoThey say they are for American tobacco they say they are update ing my files .they have certain details but most are incorrect. An absolute scam they said they are from BAT yet say they got information from public records?????? Needs shutting down and jail operatives .needless to say they got nothing from me. I had a call from 08004118899 trying to persuade me to buy plan to cover a Hotpoint washing machine as according to them my warranty has expired. Since I have never registered this machine and I doubt the respected shop from which it was bought would give them my details I was suspicious of their company and proposed service. Looking at these comments it would appear I am correct in resisting their advances.
