My brother got a call from this number asking for a gas meter reading. He was not sure where the caller was from but a 1471 and internet search brought up this number as belonging to British Gas. However I am not with British Gas but with Southern Electric, for at least the last 6 years. I called Southern Electric who said they did not call for any reading and would not do so. Received many calls from same number but just the last digit changes. It is an automated message saying that they are HMRC and that a tax fraud claim is made against me, that I should press 1 and talk to a representative otherwise I will be arrested shortly. It is so annoying as to how they get my number, i have had so many unsolicitored calls recently. Who is selling my information, I am so carefull in completing any online applications with my sensitive details?

Rang to ask for information relating to a policy i dont have. I hung up, they rang back where my 5 year old answered and yelled abuse down phone claiming to be cancelling my policy and hung up. I answered the call but they hang up. I've received two calls from mobile numbers that have the same first 5 numbers. These scammers seem to use a number very similar to yours. I guess to make you think it looks like a genuine caller. Best is not to answer. If there is no voice message left then it is likely to be a scam.
