Recorded message saying amount had been charged to my Visa card. No company name given by message. Said my card could be blocked if I didn t get in touch to sort it out.
I made payment to these people too, for advertising in an upcoming event brochure of almost ?230, (I stupidly paid twice, as they rang back the next day and said the payment hadn t gone through, I did actually check with my bank, and there was nothing showing as having gone through the day before, but it did appear within a few days]. Scam. Automated message stating that £600 had been taken from a Visa or Mastercard in the last 15 minutes. Press 1 to continue. Pressed 1 to get another automated message to be told I was being transferred. Transferred through to what was obviously a call centre. I only did it out of curiosity as I knew it was a scam. Wanted others to be aware.
SCAM pretending to be HMRC
Claiming to be from my Internet service provider but could not give me any information to demonstrate that this was genuinely the case - didn't know my name and when challenged could not prove who they were calling from. Told me there had been issues with Internet connection in my area in the last few weeks and when I said mine has been fine they then changed tack and said they were calling to protect me from hackers. I cut them off and suggested my ISP contacts me over email if there's a genuine problem.
