Received a call offering a free tablet, declined as I did not believe they were calling from Vodafone themselves, and hung up. Then received a seemingly automated text message from Vodafone advising the call was genuine, but the grammar in the text was poor - "infact", "you wasn t sure", "removed you from our list of customer" - so I can t be sure if it is genuine. Surely a big company like that would check something so simple?

I feel sorry for Bideford G.B. because the criminals, who fake their numbers as well as everything else, chose to call me using this supposed number today. As usual, the voice was foreign and very indistinct, accompanied by crackling, and there was a delay before the woman even spoke. I told her to speak more loudly and clearly. Call claimed to be from Vodafone retentions department promising me a 40% discount, asked me a bunch of security questions and then asked me to read him the code from a password reset email that he had triggered on my Vodafone account. This apparently would enable him to send me the priority app so I could access 5G calls and VIP features. Alarm bells at this point. I said I'd call him back then checked with Vodafone. They confirmed that this is not a number they use and not to give out any information. SC
SCAM This number called my 86 year old mother today, getting her so traumatised she was shouting & crying which is when I took the phone. The person was insisting Mum has a 3 year fridge/freezer insurance, that she pays yearly & needs to pay final year. My mum doesn’t own a fridge/freezer. In the end I told her to put it in writing & send to me. I’ve got to check mum’ bank in case they’ve ever taken money. There will be legal proceedings.

Called me claiming to be Scottish Power, wanted me to tell them my address, saying I had a debt on my account. I asked them to tell me the address to which they claimed the debt was overdue on, but they couldn't. When I told them that I have never had an account with Scottish Power, they became very aggressive and eventually told me to f..k off and hung up on me.

The called did not know where I was from so admitted they are in Bangalore before I pointed out they were using a virtual London number. The only staff was Arslan Majeed who was both secretary and Director. Born July 1983.
