This caller knew my name (but not my correct surname- so not bonafide) and claimed that they had my information because I had been involved in an accident and they were handling the claim. I have not. And when I told the man this, he changed the tack and claimed that someone else had given me as as a contact for their own claim. Nonsense. I received a call from this number today, it s seemed to be a poor connection or he made out he couldn t hear me. I man with a very strong accent (not English) yet goes by the name of peter asked for me by name when I said yes. He said I m calling from the bank and hung up. I expected they ( whoever they are) wanted me to call the bank at some unknown exaggerated cost to myself.

I always answer my phone with my first name and surname. As soon as I did so, the caller hung-up. I ve had this kind of call on dozens of occasions over the past few years, but on this occasion my 1471 actually returned 0208 870 1001. When I tried the number, it returned a "this number does not accept incoming calls" message.
