Wanted to know mother's maiden name, how long I've lived at this address, debit card number, etc. When I challenged why they needed this information, she said it was for their verification team to verify who I was. This is a fake number used by scammers to try to get personal information about you. They sound very official and scary, suggesting legal action against you. I inadvertently provided them with my name, National Insurance number and name of bank before I realised that it was a phishing attempt. The caller spoke with a slightly American accent. I tried to call the number back, but it's invalid.

I'm not sure if this number is a scam or not because my card had stopped working the day before, but would always recommend if you need to contact the bank then google what their phone number is and ring that one, NOT the number a message asks you to call (for coop bank it should be 0345 721 2212)
