I received a call from this number to my home telephone at about 15.50hrs in the afternoon. I answered quickly as I was sat next to my telephone and could hear background sounds resembling a call centre but no-one spoke to me so I hung up. Presuably some sort of cold-call.

He persisted to try and get confirmation of my name each time I asked him to identify himself. After three attempts and clearly not getting anywhere with me he put the phone down

Definitely a scam. BT, Openreach, TalkTalk, Virgin etc., will never call you about a technical issue unless you contact them. Any call about your computer, router, viruses, I...
