I tried to book a room at The Principal Oxford Spires Hotel, Abingdon Road, OX1 4PS, Oxford and called a number 08448542910 indicated on their website. I had to call twice as there was an automated telephone service and no one was able to answer my phone calls. Last month I saw a charge of 1.38 GBP plus VAT on my phone bill!! What a wrong way to make money!! Looks like the hotel is doing that badly so they have to charge potential customers to simply book a room. According to the reviews on the above number

I didn't recognise the number or even the area code so I didn't answer the call.

Answered call and a young man asked to speak with me by name in regard to private pensions, when he found that I was already retired & receiving a state pension, he said sorry for troubling me and ended the call.

Picked up the phone and an automated voice said "this is a message from....." there was a number but they said it so quickly I couldn t take it down. The message was "are you online for real?". No idea what it meant and I wasn t online at the time

I dont know who this is they are ringing and putting phone down as soon as I answerthen I m ringing back and it s unavailable

They called up asking if I had recently been involved in a car crash. It sounded similar to that scam that makes you say yes and then uses your recording to claim that you agreed to some contract or scam your credit card or something. They said the name very quickly at the beginning of the call. They quickly said that they will take my number off of their database and then they hung up. This number called my mobile. I ignored it as I did not recognise a Chard number beginning 4. No message was left, therefore it cannot have been important.

Received numerous calls on my mobile answered a few times to no response finally speaks to someone called Tony told me I d had an accident (which I never had) asked politely if he could ring me back tomorrow as I d seen it in the stars I was going to have the said accident, at that point we got disconnected?

Some pension scam "You are owed ?1,000 due to pension bla bla bla" utter crap -- just trying to con money out of people. If it was genuine they would have my address and have sent me a letter. Another number in my call blocker ---- best gadget I ever bought --- there is nothing like the satisfaction I get in putting people numbers in this - they only ring once and never again!

Reports on other sites vary, some claim it s an Amazon delivery driver, others say they get the call but haven t ordered anything.
