SCAM. The caller was a woman claiming to be based in Cape Town, South Africa. She further claimed to be from the energy company – E.ON – that supplies me with electricity. She knew or guessed my first name, and asked for confirmation of details of my name and mailing address. However, she did NOT ask for – nor did she receive – my e˗mail address, my account number, or any bank or credit card or debit card details. Furthermore, she did not ask for immediate payment. Have nothing to do with this number.

This number called me at 7:36 am on a Monday morning! I'm a retired person so I don't get up before the sun and at 7:36 am the sun is still in bed in Greater Manchester. I did jump out of bed but didn't pick up as I didn't recognise the number. Apparently the call originated in Thanet which Google tells me is in Kent. As I know of no reason why someone from Thanet (which I'd never even heard of) should phone me at an ungodly time of day I can only assume this was a scam call.

I asked them to tell me the address to which they claimed the debt was overdue on, but they couldn't. It says this is Clearanswer, a marketing company and one of BTs partners.....comments from the general public seem to suggest otherwise. A very foreign voice suggested my BT contract was coming to an end. I don’t discuss new contracts with a cold caller. When I said it wasn’t due to be renegotiated she hung up...not the sort of thing a genuine person would do.
