SPAM - answered call and it was a recorded message from a lady with an American accent saying "Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs" - I just hung up
Since no message was left on my answerphone machine, I must assume that this was not a valid call. They called three times today according to my caller display.

SCAM Called me at around 1100 hrs (Tue) on 27.7.2021 on my UK landline. Pre-recorded message read out by a lady, claiming that there has been some illegal activity going on with my internet, unless I contact them (e.g. by pressing '1' for .....'2' for .....) immediately, my internet will be shut down within the next 24-48 hrs. I just hanged up.

Indian scammers posing as BT tech support. Ask them for your address. If they really were from BT they would know it They will say your computer showed up on their server as being hacked. If that was really the case then why don't they have your address? Ask them for your IP address as the only way your "computer" could show up on a BT server is with an IP address (except BT don't monitor for this sort of thing and wouldn't phone you up about it). Despite registration with the TPS, I had two cold calls about an alleged car accident in which I was involved but I do not own a car and certainly was not involved in an accident on the date claimed. The caller claimed to be from a company called Solicitors Law Firm and to have got details of my alleged accident from the UK National Traffic Department but as far as I can ascertain neither organisation exists. They witheld their phone number but claimed to be calling from 01527 821239.
