When I started to rebuff him and said "No. no. no I haven't had one." he said "Listen to me you f****g b***h." I asked him to repeat what he had said and then I put the phone down. Tried ringing back. No answer.

This is the number for a scammer. They call up claiming to be from your ISP and ask you to run a remote desktop access program so they can do god knows what with it. I kept them on the line for some time pretending to be an idiot before I finally let them know they were rumbled.
