Caller (Tom) says a cheque for £3100 due, and something about a cancellation call relating to an Abbey (?) bank account. Calling my elderly father s number. I believe this to be a scam. Fortunately my father isn t able to return the call.

Total silence, caller terminated after two seconds. DO NOT return the call. Just as with e-mails, such action confirms to the originator that the number has a human on the end and then, the response is saved for use by the cold caller company that uses it. Although displayed STD might lead you to believe its originator s location (in this case, London), geographic numbers can be applied for by a company regardless of actual location. As usual, my answering machine takes any call, and automatically dials 0171 to record the caller s number if available. Repeated calls from 0139852762 with no message left. I don t care, I don t have to answer, and it must cost whoever it is!
