They probably instigate all the silent nuisance calls you receive so they can tell you that you are being annoyed by nuisance calls. So of course if you pay them they may stop making the nuisance calls. Otherwise known as a protection racket which is certainly illegal.
Thomson Holidays. I have booked a holiday with them so see no problem with them contacting me, even if they are just trying to up-sell. Perfectly polite and happy for me to decline their offer to upgrade my holiday.

0203 769 7565 - My elderly mother advised she had received a scam call, claiming to be Sky and calling her by name. Asian sounding woman (Susan) stated Sky are changing from monthly debit standing order to single annual payment, required upfront. Demanded my Mother to provide credit/debit card details immediately, otherwise full subscription circa £150 would be taken on debit from Bank (that bit doesnt make any sense). SCAM call received from this number at 1130 on Mon 19/10/2020 stating “THIS IS A CALL FROM BRITISH TELECOM. YOUR LANDLINE AND INTERNET ARE ABOUT TO BE DISCONNECTED. PLEASE PRESS ONE”. I suspect that this is one of those calls which when you press “1” you will automatically be charged for a premium call. If you receive a call from this number, do NOT press 1 and block the number from your system.

I just got a call from this number...Asian man kept him on line for 20 minutes I pretended to be a frail old lady who couldn t hear him properly ...went through a few motions (or pretended to) when he asked what I could see on screen I began screaming PORN and pretended to cry...he hung up !!
