As per the above - promising to write off debts. If it was that easy, well, I wouldn t be in debt now would I. First couple of these I ve had in years since I went all ex-directory, so some git has sold me number as part of a database recently, that much can be guessed. Quick call to O2 and have the number changed works too if you can be bothered to tell your mates your number has changed. In fact that works twofold, it help weed out the crap from your address book....
silent phone call.
Called twice in the space of a couple of minutes. She said she was calling from Glasgow research
Scam they say they are BT openreach but they are not.
Fraud
unwanted telemarketing
SCAM - recorded message claims your National Insurance number has been involved in fraud/illegal activity and says you must press 1 immediately to speak to an advisor. A quick Google search found lots of examples of this as a phishing message.
SCAM recored message claiming to be Bt who "have been trying to ring us warning of impending cut off of internet as dubious activity has been detected on our line". Had several of these calls (all with the pause of a recorded message before it cuts in) but not necessarily from just this number. On our text phone below the registered number it said unavailable. It would most likely have asked me to press 1 if I had bothered to listen to it all. No way!

SCAM / SPAM - 020 3012 2158. Call received to my mobile and when I answered a recorded massage could be heard - un-accented British male voice. Message informs that a warrant has been issued on behalf of the UK's HMRC and to press 1 to avoid being arrested. An obvious scam call - HMRC always communicate in writing to individuals and companies in the first instance.

Missed call - tried to answer unknown number but dropped call. No message left. Treat as suspicious as I know no-one in Congleton.
