Just received a call from this number on my mobile. I answered and said "Hello?" whereupon the call was immediately disconnected. I don't recognise the number, but suspect some sort of scam or nefarious activity. Although the criminals mainly target my landline, some of them seem to have my mobile number.

Said they were BT, I had too many people using my IP. The account name was wrong. They said they could block them from their server, but it would be better from my PC. After my challenges they sent a text message with a verification code. It said to change my password. I did. Had one previously, real BT support said it was a scam. Assumed this identical call was too. Only the false account name was a clue, otherwise how can you tell?

They call you and ask you to chose an option via an automated audio. This will likely re-route your call to a premium number that they own. It is not a legitimate caller so do not answer it.
SCAM Message popped up on my laptop stating that it was in danger of being hacked and had been temporarily blocked. The error message suggested I called a helpline (number stated 020) said to be Microsoft Security. I rang, lady answered (Indian/pakistan accent) lots of noise in the background, she wanted me to depress the windows and the letter R key on my laptop. was evasive when I asked what would happen. Normally they call me from different Aberdeen Numbers, so now they're trying to catch me out by phoning me from Dumfries.
