They phoned me saying they were from BT and trying to stop marketing calls (Like a kind of international Telephone Preference Service) and tried to get get my card details out of me. They read out my name and address to me then asked for the expiration date on my debit card so they could "verify" my details. I gave them a false one. They then asked for the "Reference" number of the card the big number along the top. I asked them to verify my BT account number (I m on Virgin Media) but they did nit see

They re a bunch of prats with nothing better to do than flog any old crap for clients and their call redirection service will show different locations where the call came from. Really nasty, threatening scam from this number. The message said HMRC had a tax fraud case listed against my name and I should press 1 to connect to the HMRC investigating officer to discuss the case. It then went on to say that if I didn't I would be arrested for tax fraud - I knew it was not true but some people could be really scared and stressed by this horrible scam.
