If you speak then the line is detected as 'an active voice line' and logged as such, a scammer will then be calling you later, and usually using a different number! If you don't recognize the number calling DON'T SPEAK, JUST LISTEN! If you don't hear a voice and then the line goes dead then congratulations - you've just successfully escaped being scammed! THESE CALLS ARE HARASSING AND ALWAYS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS!

She never called back. She will continue to look for gullible people. Sadly there are many of those. Her next victim may be a pensioner & easy prey

SCAM I believe A woman, sounding Indian, pretending to be from BT OpenReach about my internet quality We don't buy our internet from BT I suspect this was one of those "we have discovered traffic on your line caused by viruses and need to log in to your computer to fix it" scam calls. The call didn't get that far though. She hung up, probably realised that I knew what I was talking about.

Telemarketer called and tried to sound like an independent insurance reviewer who wanted to make sure my life insurance doesnt lapse due to new legislation I tried to explicitly ask if they were a government body or private organisation and instead of giving me a clear answer he proceeded to say they are not trying to sell me anything and they work with all insurers and asked whether i had life insurance I asked for their website and was given httpwwwsearchlivecom basic webpage clearly spam

I never answer the landline (to avoid giving scammers/spammers the knowledge that my landline is a valid number). I researched the number but could not find a legitimate index entry, so I conclude it is a scam and not to be trusted at all. Potentially dangerous. SCAM: received a text message, allegedly from my daughter, at 00.54 in the morning which was 'hello mum, this is my new number. My old phone no longer works. Can you send this number a message on Whatsapp? 07706376356.' So I did. I then checked with my daughter, who confirmed that she has not changed her phone number. I have phoned the number twice since; does not pick up but does go through to an anonymous voicemail.

Claimed to be from the VAT. I didn't believe them. We have accountants and all our HMRC dealings are up to date. Rascals.

Called me but when I answered immediately had an answering machine that said a letter for me had been returned to them so they would be taking legal action, like an answering machine would go into that much depth. Then I waited for the message to repeat to hear who it claimed to be and instead it hung up. Clearly a scam.

I was called by an ambassador of "Petra" a company that claims to be a programming language. I asked my husband who is an expert software engineer and he had never heard of this company. After some research he concluded the company is "cringe and blue pulled".

Very suspicious, automated voice call basically telling me I'm in trouble with HMRC and to call the number they've rung from immediately. Strange that the message was with an American accent - yeah pull the other one!

Scam, assuming that I can get a refund from their investigation about blockchain.
