Just after receiving 01225 809616 (no response, no speech), which I picked up because it was a local number to us. This number called - listed as International 0037283087478. I let the call go to answer machine where it shut off after 3 secs. So, was the 1st number a spoof call to capture numbers of people who picked up? Which the 2nd number then used?

This is the second time I've received these unsolicited calls- the first time was from a different number but it's the same scam. The recorded voice message says that it is a call from HMRC regarding tax fraud. You are requested to press 1 to speak to an officer who then calls you back from a listed HMRC number. They inform you that you owe tax & when you ask for details or question why you've not received any written information they become argumentative & threatening.
These people obtain, STEAL, your tel. number from your ip address via metadata. Ever come accross annoying adverts when browsing online which doesn t let you close? ie. Engadget, youtube etc... Mine was a survey which popped up whilst online and I had to wait 20secs inorder to dismiss that advert. Enduring the agonising 20 secs. Recorded call that states there is urgent news about your pension bonus-how stupid do they think we are! I have had a number of these calls over the last couple of weeks.
