Just got my first one from this number this morning. Before I had chance to open they hung up. Glad I found some info before thinking about ringing them back. I don t know why the authorities don t ban people/companies who do this (i.e. dial and hang up so they will get paid by people trying to call back)

Just had this number call (Liverpool code, with non-geographical sub-code 808) - but I never pick up the phone. Worst thing you can do, as it confirms to the other end yours is a proper phone number which will now be sold on to every piece of scum in the known universe. This explains the silent treatment from any real person (low-lifeform) at the other end. Let the phone ring until the other end gets fed up and ends the call, then dial 1471 and note down the number. Google it to see what scum has tried

Second call received from this number. The first time they hung up as soon as I answered. The second time, I answered it, the bloke said that they were from "Consumer Helpline ", and "ringing about any finance [I d] taken out in the past ten years and any miss-sold PPI ", as soon as he heard me say that it was an "unsolicited call", and that "I m ex directory", the bloke hung up! I called this number back and they said it was vodafone. He wanted to chat about my contract but got disconnected. I contacted vodafone to check if this number was them and they confirmed that it was a courtesy call from them, so it seemed to be genuine.
